Vehicles without environmental badge may not pass through the green zone, otherwise a penalty of 40,00 ¤ and a penalty point in Flensburg impend, even if the vehicle would be allowed to pass through the zone based on its emission value. Weimar is located right in the middle of Germany in the state of Thuringia and awarded as 'Cultural Captial 1999'. Nowhere else will you find as many unique sites of natural and cultural interest situated so closely together. 33 of them have been designated as UNESCO World Heritage sites of "extraordinary universal interest" and have been placed under the protection of international conventions. Weimar is a 'university town' (Bauhaus university, Franz Liszt Academy of Music,Anna Amalia Library) and as well seat of several public authorities and Thuringian District Council. In Weimar 11.2% of the employees work in the producing industry and 87.7% in the tertiary sector.
